Hourly to Salary Calculator
Comparing a job paid by the hour with a salaried offer, or turning a salary into a rate for freelance quotes, takes a few multiplications that are easy to get wrong. This calculator converts both ways and lets you account for unpaid weeks off.

How this calculator works
- Enter an hourly rate, the hours you work per week and the weeks you are paid per year.
- Use 52 weeks for a standard paid year, or fewer if you have unpaid time off.
- To go the other way, type a yearly salary and read the hourly equivalent. If a salary is filled in, it takes priority.
- All figures are before taxes and deductions.
The formula
Yearly pay = hourly rate x hours per week x paid weeks. Hourly rate = yearly salary / (hours per week x paid weeks).
Example: $30 an hour, 40 hours, 52 weeks = $62,400 a year, about $5,200 a month and $1,200 a week. A $90,000 salary at 40 hours and 52 weeks is about $43.27 an hour.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert hourly pay to an annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and by paid weeks per year. At 40 hours and 52 weeks, a rate times 2,080 gives the yearly figure.
Are these figures before or after tax?
Before. Taxes, benefits and deductions vary, so use your pay stub or an accountant for take-home pay.
Should freelancers use this to set a rate?
Not alone. A freelance rate must also cover taxes, expenses and unbillable time, which is what the freelance rate calculator is for.
What if I get unpaid holidays?
Lower the paid weeks per year to reflect them.
