How consultant invoicing usually works

Consultants bill by the hour, by the day, per project or on a monthly retainer. Reimbursable expenses should be separate lines so they can be excluded from rate comparisons and reconciled easily. Quote the purchase order or agreement number if the client uses one, because many accounts-payable teams will not process an invoice without it.
